The Spex Wonderseat was designed with pediatrics in mind. Common challenges are solved with this small wheelchair seating system that is designed to work as a cohesive solution. The Wonderseat comes in two varieties, depending on the child's needs: the Wonderseat Space and the Wonderseat Bounce.

Wonderseat Space is for children who require a moderate to high level of postural support in sitting. These are children who will typically be using a tilt-in-space wheelchair, so that the influence of gravity on their posture can be managed. As part of the clinical rationale for this solution, the postural support supplied is able to match the needs of the client with little-to-no sitting control, with supports able to be moved away easily to help with transfers.

Wonderseat Bounce is for children who require a low to moderate level of postural support in sitting. These are children who will typically be transferring in and out of their wheelchairs with support from parents and caregivers, but who may require some postural support when in their chair for a long period of time. Wonderseat Bounce has fewer moving parts and swing-away options to ensure durability. While Wonderseat Bounce offers a lower level of support compared to Space, it is not an active user system and care should be taken if considering this system for a child who is self-propelling their wheelchair.

The Wonderseat can be installed on a variety of different manual wheelchair frame types, including folding, rigid, and tilt-in-space.

Easy Transfers

Easy Transfers

The arm supports are easy to remove using the quick-release mechanism to give parents and caregivers easy access during transfers. The anterior trunk support harness features front-access clips that make it easy to get little arms into place without needing to change the length of the harness. Wonderseat Space also features other quick-release and swing-away mechanisms, allowing more of the hardware to be positioned away from the child.

Integrated Cam Locks

Integrated Cam Locks

Mounting points for the anterior trunk support harness are integrated into the back support. This removes the need for unnecessary hardware and simplifies the adjustment and removal process.

Hip Belt Mounting

Hip Belt Mounting

The hip belt is mounted through numbered slots on a specially designed plate, which can be adjusted to ensure precise placement and easy growth. The slots make it simple to remove the hip belt for washing.

Shower Cap Cover

Shower Cap Cover

A shower cap cover is supplied as standard, making removal for cleaning easier for families and caregivers. The cushion also includes an incontinence cover under the outer cover to keep the cushion dry.

Reduced Hardware

Reduced Hardware

Where possible, hardware has been reduced to make the seat lighter in weight, but also to avoid hardware conflicting or clashing. An example is the stemless head support hardware which, along with the removal of harness guides, greatly reduces the hardware at the rear of the back support.

Easy Back Height Adjustment

Easy Back Height Adjustment

The back support height adjustment across the range has been simplified, allowing for easy tailoring of back height using as few fastener points as possible. The cleverly designed dual shell system means only the lateral supports and central bolt need to be loosened for the back support to grow.

Wonderseat Constructa Cushion

Wonderseat Constructa Cushion

The innovating Constructa cushion has been specially designed for the Wonderseat range. Modular inner components allow for adjustment and growth as time goes by. The ischial block can be moved towards the back of the cushion as the back support is pushed backward for growth, meaning the ischial tuberosities are always support exactly where you need them to be.
